The Ministry of Justice has banned lawyers from unfriendly countries from practicing in justice

The Ministry of Justice has published amendments to the Administrative Regulations on the maintenance of the Register of lawyers of foreign states engaged in advocacy in the territory of the Russian Federation. It prohibits persons who have obtained a lawyer's status abroad from practicing in Russia — in one of the countries recognized as unfriendly.

Until now, they could refuse to register in the registry only if false information was provided. The grounds for exclusion from it could also be the unreliability of the information provided, the expulsion of a lawyer from the country, a criminal sentence that came into force against him or the termination of his status in a foreign state.

Now the fact that the lawyer's status was obtained in one of the states included in the register of unfriendly towards Russia has been added to these grounds. Now there are 48 of them.

To date, there are 247 foreign lawyers in the register. Of these, 124 received such a status in one of the states that are recognized as unfriendly. Most of them are from Ukraine (56) and the UK (25). There are also 15 French and 15 German lawyers practicing in Russia.

On June 3, the European Union banned European companies from providing consulting and auditing services to Russian residents. Before that, such bans were introduced by the United States and Great Britain.
